Today, international cross-operator SMS exchanges are limited due to the need of bi-lateral agreements requiring each MNO to establish SMS inter-working relationships with every other mobile operator. With over 800 operator members of the GSMA and the increasing numbers of different services and access technologies, the financial cost to create and to maintain all the bi-lateral agreements needed to become fully connected becomes prohibitive.
Recently, the GSM Association introduced a new SMS Hub model, within the “Open Connectivity” project, to reshape the way that international mobile interoperability works, where much of the unproductive, identical investments in international bi-lateral agreements, made traditionally by mobile operators, disappear. With this new model, operators looking to increase their international reach will no longer need to sign multiple bi-lateral agreements; instead a single agreement with a hub will endow them with means to reach all the other networks connected to that hub or to any peered hub.
AerVox SMSX is a GSM Association (GSMA) compliant SMS Hub solution –IR.75- meant to enhance the operators inter-working offer by allowing them to quickly and inexpensively provide seamless transmission of SMS across operators worldwide.
Key Benefits
Increases ROI through quick market entry for international SMS reach, without initial heavy investments.
Reduces CAPEX by decreasing technical resources required to set-up/maintain bi-lateral connections.
Reduces OPEX:
Reducing commercial resources to set-up & maintain existing bi-lateral agreements.
O&M functions being outsourced.
Improves subscribers experience by instantly increasing SMS coverage around the world.
Enables inter-operability among networks using different technologies.
Provides additional security through fraud, and threat control.
The SMSX is aimed to enable GSM international traffic exchange between operators without the need of having a direct bilateral relationship between them. This is achieved through the capability of this service to intermediate on the traffic flow between operators, allowing a transparent communication.
The SMSX inter-works with the Clients’ Operators and with third parties’ peered hubs through MAP over SS7 and SMPP over IP network entities. MAP/SS7 offers advantages in terms of reliable delivery reporting, whereas SMPP/IP offers cost benefits. The SMSX supports both technologies and can work in pure SS7 and pure IP environments as well as in hybrid SS7-IP environments.
