SmsX

Today, international cross-operator SMS exchanges are limited due to the need of bi-lateral agreements requiring each MNO to establish SMS inter-working relationships with every other mobile operator. With over 600 operator members of the GSMA and the increasing numbers of different services and access technologies, the financial cost to create and to maintain all the bi-lateral agreements needed to become fully connected becomes prohibitive.

Recently the GSM Association introduced a new SMS Hub model, within the “Open Connectivity” project, to reshape the way that international mobile interoperability works, where much of the unproductive, identical investments in international bi-lateral agreements, made traditionally by mobile operators, disappear. With this new model, operators looking to increase their international reach will no longer need to sign multiple bi-lateral agreements; instead a single agreement with a hub will endow them with means to reach all the other networks connected to that hub or to any peered hub. The SMS hub intends to change the way operators exchange SMS by introducing Hub entities to intermediate in the international traffic flow between operators. This new concept is aimed to increase the international SMS traffic thanks to third party entities that will allow operators’ subscribers to send SMS to networks where the mobile network operators have no direct contractual relationship.

AerVox’s SmsX is a GSM Association (GSMA) compliant SMS Hub solution meant to enhance the operators inter-working offer by allowing them to quickly and inexpensively provide seamless transmission of SMS across operators worldwide.
The SmsX complies with the Open Connectivity requirements, a GSM Association initiative that introduces the Hubbing concept as the future key enabler for the improvement of a large variety of roaming, inter-working and interoperability services.

AerVox’s SmsX is a secure, open and standard SMS Hub solution that brings all the Open Connectivity Hubbing concept advantages. This solution is designed to enable operators to simply and quickly bring to market broad-reaching messaging services, overcoming the challenges associated with the set-up and handling of SMS inter-working agreements.

The SmsX is targeted to MNOs and Hub providers looking to supply SMS Hub services to different client operators. By offering them a central point of connectivity and service, client operators will automatically reach a wide range of global SMS destinations, either directly or though peering with other hubs.
By establish a single agreement with a SMS Hub service provider, instead of hundreds of bi-lateral agreements, the client operators will benefit from international SMS coverage with a single relationship for billing, administrative and operational activities, thus avoiding the need for multiple costly by-lateral connections.
